First-person psychological horror game

In Sound Mind is a first-person horror game developed by Modus Game, the brains behind the cult classic Nightmare House 2. This game will have players go on a horrific adventure inside an inexplicable building. The catch, the environment takes on life on its own, making it more impossible for you to escape.

In Sound Mind offers a story-rich narrative, keeping you engaged throughout the journey. Moreover, the puzzles are unique and clever, although not too challenging that you'll be stuck. However, the combat is fairly standard. There are also various action sequences that the horror ratio is small.

What is In Sound Mind?

In Sound Mind is a first-person horror adventure game that follows a counselor named Desmond Wales. In the game, he wakes up in an unfamiliar place with no recollection of prior events. Trapped in a nightmare, he must solve the puzzles by revisiting old tapes of patients he treated as a counselor.  With help from his cat, Tonia, he needs to bring peace to the souls of his tormented clients.

As mentioned, the game is not limited to jump scares and chase scenes. There are also action sequences that entail shooting enemies on the head or body. Occasionally, you can also aim at explosives for AOE damage. There are plenty of resources at normal difficulty. However, you only have a small arsenal at your disposal. Note, however, that some enemies require solving a puzzle to beat.

Besides action and puzzle-solving, the game also incorporates platforming and stealth, making the entire gameplay a little messy. Stealth is inconsistent, and running from invincible monsters gets tiring. Additionally, while the exploitable areas are large, there is no readily available map to help you. Furthermore, the graphics, while beautiful at first glance, get repetitive after a while. The biggest deal-breaker, however, is the lag, making the game run too slowly.

Is the game good?

Overall, In Sound Mind should have been a good game. It has a fantastic premise that is executed poorly. Sure, the pacing and puzzles are great. The music is also worth listening to. However, these few good aspects are not enough to make up for the messy gameplay and overwhelming lag. With updates, it could be amazing. But as it is now, not so much.
